This is a team event for swimmers under 12 years of age, and whose birthday is before the 30th June on the competing year. A nominal entry fee is charged to swimmers selected to be on the team. Points are awarded, and the top six teams swim off in the final (which is normally held sometime in June each year) for medals and trophies.
This is a team event for swimmers of all ages whose birthday is before the 31st December on the competing year. A nominal entry fee is charged to swimmers selected to be on the team. This competition now takes place on the one day (usually in October each year), and up to 12 clubs compete. Points are awarded, and medals and trophies are presented to the top teams.
Like the Kingston sprints in November, this is an event for swimmers from various invited clubs, who have not swum faster than the time band imposed by the organising club. This is normally swam for individual medals. Swimmers who swim faster than the time band will not be awarded a medal. The medals will be awarded to the swimmers who swim closest to the time band, but not faster.
“Too Fast” prizes are normally awarded to swimmers who break the time band. Ages are dependent on the organising club’s format. Costs per race are set by the organising club (generally between £4.00 and £5.00 per race). Swimmers must pay the club any required fees before the final entry date to be submitted for entry.
West District Championships
This is a premier event for swimmers from all affiliated clubs in the west of Scotland, who have reached a qualifying time. Swimmers who compete and do not reach the qualifying time on the day will be fined £2.00 per race. Swimmers must pay the club any required fees before the final entry date to be submitted for entry (generally between £4.00 and £5.00 per race). Entry for each event is not guaranteed and swimmers may be rejected or held as reserves.
These are team events (rather than individuals) with rules decided by the organising club. They can be for medals but are usually for a team trophy or cup. Generally a nominal entry fee is charged for these types of event, which also covers any transport the club arranges to and from the gala.
